Shipping documents

Non-declarable shipments such as business documents, reports, files and records, contracts, computer printouts, etc.

Q. What destinations are served?

A. The whole world, more than 230 countries.

Q. What forms do I have to fill out?

A. You only have to fill out a DHL Airwaybill.

Q. Can I insure my shipment?

A. Yes. (Please specify on the Airwaybill).
If you are not already covered by your own transport insurance policy, you can insure your goods up to a maximum of USD 5,000,000.- (cost of replacement). The premium comes to 3% of the declared value (minimum USD 10.-). Some documents, such as airline tickets, cannot be insured.

Q What weight is actually charged for my shipment?

A. The actual weight charged is determined by weighing the package on equipment meeting government requirements at DHL stations. The price charged for packages with a volume greater than 6,000 cm3 is calculated using the following formula:
Length (cm) x width (cm) x height (cm) = volumetric weight in kg 6000

Q. Are there items which are not accepted for shipment or which are subject to special limits?

A. DHL does not ship cash or negotiable financial documents (such as cheques, bearer share certificates, etc.). DHL will also not ship items whose import is prohibited in the destination country. For more details on import restrictions, please check our global home page, http://www.dhl.com.

Q. What different payment options do I have?

A. If you send a number of shipments every month, you can
open an account with us and receive an invoice on a monthly basis. If you want the consignee to pay the costs of transport, just specify this on the airwaybill (certain conditions apply). Otherwise you can pay in cash when we pick up your package, or by credit card if you bring your package to a DHL office.

A. WPX (Worldwide Parcel Express)

Q. Are there special limits on weight or quantity?

A. Yes. A maximum weight 250kg per Airwaybill and 50 kg per package.

Q. What forms do I have to fill out?

A. The DHL Airwaybill must be accompanied by a commercial invoice (for goods intended for sale) or a pro forma invoice (for goods such as samples and gifts which have no commercial value).

Q. Are customs duties payable?

A. Generally, Yes. Duties will be charged to the person receiving the package, unless the shipper wishes to pay it him or herself.

Q. Can I insure my shipment?

A. Yes. (Please specify on the Airwaybill). If you are not already covered by your own transport insurance policy, you can insure your goods up to a maximum of USD 5,000,000.-. The premium comes to 3% of the declared value (minimum USD 10.-). DHL insurance is obligatory for shipments of goods valued over USD 5,000.- per shipment.

A. DHL does not accept the following for shipment:
animals, antiques, works of art, fire arms, ammunition, dangerous or flammable materials, plants, furs, illegal narcotics, precious stones and precious metals, or items subject to import prohibitions (e.g. alcohol to Saudi Arabia).

Q. Can I easily circulate my goods in more than one country without customs duties and formalities?

A. Yes. You can circulate goods for up to a maximum one year. At the moment of shipment you have to fill out an A.T.A. Carnet (available from the chamber of commerce).
